Latest development news: Uploader facelift, rendering clients for Blender 2.5 |
This week we organized a workshop day for our dev team in Helsinki. The day was focused very much on improving the usability of the uploader script. What did we do? Here's a list: - No more need to enter user-id (now you only need to enter your e-mail and password)
- Username = E-mail address (this clarifies the use of the uploader)
- You can check your completed, ongoing and pending sessions
- You can cancel a pending session yourself (in case you noticed an error in the scene after uploading, for example)
- Checking session variables to ensure a succesful render on Renderfarm.fi and minimize the amount of uploads that cannot be submitted to clients
- A slightly cleaner look on the uploader
In addition we were paying attention to security in the session upload phase. The new uploader will, most likely, be released inside the first official Renderfarm.fi Beta build of Blender 2.5 - or before. We're also working on getting the Blender 2.5 Windows and Linux clients (both 32bit and 64bit versions) up and running to conincide with the release of the updated uploader. The Mac client, unfortunately, is proving a tougher challenge and could be delayed to July. Rest assured - we are working on it. |

Euler625 new search |
A new Euler application is now on test for Linx32 and Linux64 systems. To get the app you must enable test applications. Workunits are sometimes created for testing. The new Euler application searches now up to 250.000. There are 510.000 workunits in total. But first we need testers. |

Millennium/Famous is back |
The Millennium/Famous experiment has been quiet after a small-scale sneak release on March 24, but we are back with a serious amount of work.
We need to run a large ensemble of a global atmosphere-ocean coupled model, FAMOUS, from 800 to 2200 AD plus a preceding "spin-up" period. This experiment is part of the Millennium Project funded by the European Commission for paleo-climate studies of Europe. As the results we obtain cover the entire globe and the future, they will also be used in studies of other regions as well as the future climate change.
We hope you enjoy the fast simulations. Each work unit is 200 years long and is expected to complete in about 1 to 2 weeks on most recent PCs.
For further details, please visit the Millennium/Famous experiment page.

Short movie for the outreach of molecular dynamics |
In an effort to give the "Ultimate Explanation" of what is MD to the non-initiated, a couple of scientists (50% belonging to the GPUGRID team) made a short movie in the context of a visual storytelling course at the science park we work in. We hope you enjoy it: http://vimeo.com/12055025

Euler625 finished |
The project is complete!
There are 181 solutions to (6,2,5) below 117649 ! We discovered 32 new solutions during this computation, and double-checked all the existing solutions. The only sad news is that we didn't find a solution to (6,2,4). Let's hope that the next project will discover one. |

Of course it had to crash. The server should be generating work again, just give it some time to catch up with all the requests. |

MilkyWay@home screensaver coming soon |
Hi everyone. I am new to the MilkyWay@home project and will be working with the RPI group this summer. I am currently busy with the visualization of the data. Below is a screenshot of one of the wedges being worked on as it appears in the screensaver (no alterations). I am currently optimizing the screensaver draw-routines to get a decent frame-rate while displaying realistic blur circles for the stars. Suggestions are welcome. |

Server maintenance |
We are undertaking work on our BOINC server and there will therefore be outages in the next 24 hours. This website will continue to operate, as will the phpBB board, but clients will not be able to connect and the BOINC user pages may be inaccessible.
We apologise for the inconvenience and hope to have full service restored as soon as possible. |

new searches (de_test_s11 - s14) |
I've started up some new searches (in a new area of the sky we need results for). Let me know if you're having any issues with these workunits. |
